Abstract: Numerous reports suggest that acupuncture stimulation produces various electrophysiologic and humoral changes. This chapter summarizes a series of experiments done to shed further light on these effects. These include anaysis of the electroencephalogram (EEG) and recording of unit discharge from brainstem during and after acupunctural stimulation or animal hypnosis in rabbits. we also studied the EEG changes in recipient animals on cross-circulation experiments and the effects of 5-hydroxytryptophan (5-HTP), para-chlorophenylalanine (PCPA), and midbrain electrical stimulation.
